Improv with a Dash of Hip-Hop
“Hip-Prov” is a new concept game show melding the art of improvisation with the popularity of HipHop music. Local comics and improvisers are cast to compete in each show. Born out of the pandemic shutdown as a virtual show , it began its live run at Planet Ant Theater in Hamtramck. Its Maker’s Mark partnership and popularity has helped lead to additional venues requesting to host, including One Night Stan’s Comedy Club in Waterford, Freddy’s Bar and Grill in Clinton Twp, Traverse City Comedy Festival and Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle in Royal Oak.
Local comedic performer Tam White hosts and produces the show. She says, “I can’t believe how far Hip-Prov has come. It’s something I did behind my laptop and webcam during quarantine and now people drive in cars to come see it in person. I’m so grateful for the support “
Among the Hip-Prov growing list of sponsors are: Jon McCaffrey of Best Life & Co. /EXP Realty, Good Helpers Heating, Cooling & Labor Services and SYS Custom Etching and Engraving. Hip-Prov’s partners/sponsors help provide audience prizes for each show. In addition to entertaining, a portion of proceeds from past shows have gone to ‘Detroit Creativity Project’, ‘Go Run 4 Laughs’ and ‘Detroit Women of Comedy Festival’.
